Architecture & Shop Studio Build-out
CO Adaptive moved our practice to an empty space in Building 303 within the Brooklyn Navy Yard in the spring of 2022. Since then, we have carved out space for our 1,030 ft2 reuse wood shop, installed a kitchenette with fridge space and coffee station, built 20 work demountable stations, a window shelf for all of our plant friends, and installed electrical, lighting, and plumbing to serve our growing team.
We are in the process of enclosing our shop and constructing a small conference room with our Demountable Block Wall.
We love our spot in the yard; the view is spectacular, and we feel honored to be in the company of so many great makers and artists, contributing to the vibrancy of our beautiful city.
In planning the build-out of our space we did however conceive of the possibility that we may need to move spaces again. This is CO Adaptive’s fourth home, and as with every organization, change is the only constant. As such, everything that we built out is conceived to be demountable, with the intent that it will come with us should we relocate again in the future.
Our space serves not just as our office but as the grounds for interaction between our architects and builders as we all utilize the space and shop simultaneously. It is an ongoing work-in-progress that allows us to experiment and develop our ideas.
