BLOCK / Furr Block Modular Wall System
The Furr Block is modular and carbon-capturing. Constructed from a reclaimed, timber-based framework, it is an adaptable interior envelope system, which can be effectively air-sealed via gasketed connections instead of the more difficult to control taped-membrane seals commonly used in high-performance construction.
Thus far, we have installed a pilot prototype of the system on Governors Island, and also have it installed within our studio space—testing out sound attenuation in addition to thermal benefits. The system is flexible and can be deployed at different scales and in multiple configurations to suit the many conditions we face within our varied existing building stock.
CO Adaptive’s goal is to reduce the cost of energy-efficient retrofits of existing buildings with the Furr Block’s panelized wall system to allow existing buildings to be insulated and air-sealed from the interior; in turn, making the required building upgrades, decarbonization, and a better quality interior environment more accessible and affordable to all New Yorkers—particularly those living in old tenement buildings, apartments, and public housing.
We are actively seeking partners and clients to implement this system in their projects.
