We planned for the renovation of a one bedroom condo in Williamsburg in 2015 with the aim of designing for a more efficient use of the space, and additional storage for the couple who was planning to down-grade from a larger unit.
By turning the kitchen towards the dining room, we created a more connected living room and kitchen. An open island bridges the two and allows for a very integrated cooking experience, which was important to this household of avid cooks. A portion of the kitchen is backed with frosted glass and open shelving, which allows a nebulous view into the apartment when you enter into the new entry vestibule. Ample storage delineates the division of living and bedroom with custom felt drapery, hung from a recessed Lutron track system, allowing for the creation of privacy between the rooms and to the outdoors.
The flooring was chosen to be rugged reclaimed oak, laid in a herringbone pattern, and offset with a very elegant dark wood kitchen by HenryBuilt, with marble countertops and backsplash. We created a more generous laundry room at the rear of the apartment and planned for the update of finishes and fixtures in the bathroom, and new LED lighting throughout.
The project did not go into construction.
